HAMMOND, La. - The Xavier men's track and field team placed third out of 11 teams at the 2026 edition of the Strawberry Relays, the first team-scored event of the Gold Rush's outdoor season.
XULA finished behind Southern and hosting Southeastern Louisiana, but bested the likes of Nicholls State, Mississippi Valley, South Alabama, and the University of New Orleans.
All told, the team captured four medals, all silver.
The 4x100 relay team of Andrew Gillips, Jaheene Bell, Tremanie Hamilton, and Karri Noel took home their medal with a 41.33 run, which was within three-tenths of the NAIA national qualifying standard. Noel picked up an individual silver in the 400 with a 48.46 run.
Mansur Ali claimed silver in the hammer throw with 54.16 meters, which was almost 2 meters better than his previous season best and just off the national qualifying standards of 54.77 meters. Ali also placed fifth in the shot put with a 15.11 best throw.
Kameron Lloyd earned a silver in the long jump with a best effort of 7.18 meters, which is within striking distance of the NAIA national qualifying standard of 7.37.
Anthony Glay was fourth in the event with a 7.11-meter jump, while Joshua Aviles was fourth in the high jump with a 6-for-2.75-inch clearance.
