        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana announced Friday its 2023 men's soccer schedule, which includes 16 regular-season games, seven at home, and two exhibitions.
        This is XULA's debut season in this sport.
        The Gold Rush will play exhibitions against two-year opponents Jones College (Aug. 13, home) and LSU-Eunice (Aug. 16, road), then kick off the regular season Aug. 29 at William Carey, a four-time NAIA national semifinalist and No. 10 in the final NAIA coaches poll of 2022.
        All home games will be played in suburban Metairie, La., at Lafreniere Park. That facility is at 3000 Downs Blvd. and is 8.6 miles west of the XULA campus. Vehicles on Interstate 10 can use exit 225 at Veterans Memorial Boulevard.
        XULA's first Red River Athletic Conference game will start at 3 p.m. Sept. 14 against Southwest (N.M.) at Lafreniere. There are 14 RRAC men's soccer teams, and XULA will play each of those opponents once.
        LSU-Shreveport, the 2022 RRAC regular-season and tournament champion, will visit XULA Sept. 28.
        Students, faculty and staff with a valid XULA ID are admitted free to home games.
        XULA is a longtime NAIA member and in its third season in the RRAC. XULA's first men's soccer team will be eligible for RRAC regular-season and tournament championships and a berth at NAIA nationals. The top eight teams in the RRAC regular-season standings will qualify for the conference tournament, and the top four seeds will play host to first-round games Nov. 3 or 4.
        XULA is fielding the first men's collegiate varsity team in New Orleans since the University of New Orleans in 1985.
