NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana track and field's
Seth Alexander and Yhann Plummer
earned spots Friday on the 2023 All-Louisiana collegiate teams.
Alexander qualified for the men's team as the state's No. 3 performer this year in the triple jump
with a school-record 15.39 meters/50 feet, 6 inches. Alexander, a junior from Arnaudville, La., and a graduate of Breaux Bridge High School,
produced that mark May 26 at Marion, Ind., to become XULA's first NAIA national champion in this sport.
Plummer was voted Women's Coach of the Year
by a Louisiana Sports Writers Association panel of college publicists.
Plummer led the Gold Nuggets to a repeat outdoor team championship in the Red River Athletic Conference,
this time with a meet-record 309 points. The RRAC title was Plummer's fourth in a row at the conference level.
The top three performers in each event, based on times,
distances, heights and points compiled by the NCAA and NAIA, earn All-Louisiana.
Plummer earned the coaching award with 4-of-12
votes. Northwestern State's Mike Heimerman and LSU's Dennis Shaver tied for second with three votes apiece.
Alexander was runner-up for Men's Field Athlete of the Year.
LSU's Tzuriel Pedigo, the NCAA Division I champion in the javelin, won that award.
