SUGAR LAND, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana scored in the 15th minute Saturday, and that was
all the Gold Rush needed to earn a 1-0 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer
victory against North American University.
The Gold Rush (4-1 overall, 3-0 RRAC)
have won four straight, including three shutouts to open conference play.
This is XULA's first year of men's and women's soccer.
Gustavo Oliveira scored the goal with an assist by
Leonardo Menzen.
Then XULA relied on defense — winning goalkeeper
Breno Zanolla
had five saves — to produce its second consecutive 1-0 victory.
Zanolla was XULA's goalkeeper for all
three RRAC shutout victories.
Ramiro Longoria had four saves for the Stallions (3-2, 2-1).
Joining Menzen, Oliveira and Zanolla in XULA's starting lineup were
Ignacio Solorza,
Caio Tascheto,
Juan Braz,
Julio Gruba,
Sebastian Pinto,
Eduardo dos Santos,
Fabricio Reis and
Caleb Evans.
XULA and Louisiana Christian (3-0)
are the only teams unbeaten in RRAC games. The Wildcats won 8-0 at
Paul Quinn. There are 14 RRAC men's soccer teams.
XULA will play at home twice next week
at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La.: 3:30 p.m. Thursday against LSU-Shreveport and 7:30 p.m. Saturday
