Senior leadership helps Gold Nuggets win 8th in a row

2024 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer standings

METAIRIE, La. — Saturday was senior day for Xavier University of Louisiana women's soccer, and, fittingly, XULA seniors accounted for five goals and all seven assists in a 6-0 Red River Athletic Conference victory against Jarvis Christian.
The Gold Nuggets (8-3 overall, 7-0 RRAC) extended their school-record winning streak to eight. And thanks to LSU-Shreveport's 3-1 victory at Louisiana Christian, XULA is the only Red River team with no losses in league play.
        XULA seniority looked like this:
        •  Luci Schroeder scored three goals, including the first two, and assisted on two others.
        •  Gabriela Gonzalez produced a goal and an assist.
        •  Julia de Souza scored once and assisted on two goals.
        •  Britni Belmonte assisted on two goals.
The only non-senior to score was Samira Roper, who found the net for the sixth consecutive game and broke the second-year program's record for goals in a season with 13. But Schroeder's hat trick — her second in three days, her third this season and the fifth of her career — gave her a second straight 12-goal season.
Schroeder broke the program record for multi-goal games in a career with five.
Senior goalkeeper Theresa Wiesiolek (7-2) notched her third shutout of the season and her seventh consecutive victory. It was a program season record seventh shutout for XULA — all of them occurred during the current win streak.
XULA's other senior honoree was Grete Nelson. All six final-season honorees were introduced after the game.
Jarvis Christian is 3-7-1 overall and 2-5-1 in conference. Immediately behind XULA in the Red River are LSUS at 7-1, Louisiana Christian at 5-1-1, Our Lady of the Lake and Houston-Victoria at 5-2 apiece, LSU-Alexandria at 4-1-2 and Texas A&M-Texarkana at 5-2-1.
The Gold Nuggets will continue their home stand with an 11 a.m. Thursday RRAC game against OLLU at Lafreniere Park. Admission is free to all XULA soccer home games.
