Gold Nuggets, Saints tie at 1

2024 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer standings

METAIRIE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana's school-record eight-game winning streak in women's soccer ended Thursday, but the Gold Nuggets' unbeaten streak increased to nine.
XULA and Our Lady of the Lake tied at 1 at Lafreniere Park — both goals were scored in the first half — to tighten up the Red River Athletic Conference race for the regular-season championship.
XULA, the defending champion, is 7-0-1 in the league, but also contending are LSU-Shreveport (8-1), Louisiana Christian (6-1-1), Houston-Victoria (6-2) Texas A&M-Texarkana (6-2-1) and OLLU (5-2). The Gold Nuggets already have road victories against LSUS and TAMUT.
The Gold Nuggets' unbeaten streak, which began Sept. 7 with a 4-0 victory at Mobile, also is a school record.
Two more school records belong to XULA junior forward Samira Roper, who scored for the eighth consecutive game and notched her 14th goal of the season. Roper's goal was in the 12th minute — Gabriela Gonzalez and Britni Belmonte assisted — and gave XULA the lead. Roper leads the RRAC in goals, and teammate Luci Schroeder is tied for third with 12.
Kaitlyn Olivas' shot for OLLU from about 25 yards on the left side — Lyndee Rheinberger assisted — tied the score in the 38th minute.
XULA is 8-3-1 overall, and OLLU is 6-3-2. The Saints are 5-0-1 in their last six games, all in conference.
The Gold Nuggets will conclude their four-game home stand with a 10 a.m. Saturday RRAC game against Texas A&M-San Antonio at a first-time site, Pan American Stadium in New Orleans City Park. Admission is free to all XULA soccer home games. No rain is expected in New Orleans through Oct. 24.
