Julia de Souza scored twice Saturday in Xavier University of Louisiana's 2-0 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer victory against Texas A&M-San Antonio at Pan American Stadium.
The Gold Nuggets (9-3-1 overall, 8-0-1 RRAC) clinched one of the eight spots in next month's RRAC Tournament. XULA is 9-0-1 in its last 10 games.
de Souza scored in the fifth minute on a penalty kick, then scored in the 83rd minute with
Luci Schroeder assisting. de Souza has nine goals this year and 19 in XULA's two varsity seasons.
XULA's defense allowed just one shot on goal — Jasmin Dominguez in the 40th minute. The shutout was the Gold Nuggets' eighth this season and the fourth for goalkeeper
Theresa Wiesiolek (8-2-1).
The Jaguars, who defeated XULA 1-0 a year ago, are 4-6-1 and 4-4-1.
It was the first time a XULA soccer team played in the city. Previous home games were at Lafreniere Park in suburban Metairie, La. XULA will return to Pan American Nov. 2 for a doubleheader with Louisiana Christian to close the regular season.
XULA will travel to Texas for doubleheaders Thursday at Houston-Victoria (women 1 p.m., men 3:30) and Saturday at Huston-Tillotson (women 1 p.m., men 3:30).
