Gold Rush win 7th straight, climb to 2nd in RRAC

2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer standings

AUSTIN, Texas — Leo Dutra scored two first-half goals, and Breno Zanolla produced his fourth shutout to lead Xavier University of Louisiana men's soccer in a 4-0 Red River Athletic Conference victory Saturday against Huston-Tillotson.
The XULA men tied their program record with their seventh consecutive victory.
Coupled with LSU-Alexandria's tie at 2 at Texas A&M-San Antonio, the Gold Rush (10-3-1 overall, 9-2 RRAC) moved into a second-place tie in the RRAC with the Generals. The Red River awards three points for each conference victory, one point for each tie and zero points for each loss. LSU-Shreveport leads with 31 points, followed by XULA and LSUA with 27 apiece and Louisiana Christian with 25. XULA will close its regular season next week with home games against LSUA and Louisiana Christian.
Dutra scored in the 19th and 27th minutes to give the Gold Rush a 2-0 halftime lead. Dutra assisted on both second-half goals — Artur Rubim in the 55th minute and Eduardo dos Santos in the 67th.
It was Dutra's team-leading third multi-goal game this season, and it was the fourth time in the last five games that Rubim scored.
Zanolla saved two shots. Zanolla has been the goalkeeper of record in every Gold Rush game this season.
The Rams (3-7-2, 2-7-1) lost their fourth straight.
The Gold Rush have clinched one of the eight berths for the RRAC Tournament next month. XULA will play LSUA at 1:30 p.m. Thursday at Lafreniere Park in suburban Metairie, La., and 2:30 p.m. Saturday at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans. Saturday's start time was moved up by an hour.
