Gold Rush: Record victory, home game clinched

2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer standings

METAIRIE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana broke the school record for consecutive men's soccer victories — eight — with a 3-0 Red River Athletic Conference decision Thursday against LSU-Alexandria at Lafreniere Park.
The Gold Rush (11-3-1 overall, 10-2 RRAC) also clinched a home game for next week's RRAC Tournament. XULA will play host to a quarterfinal opponent at 1:30 p.m. Thursday, also at Lafreniere.
XULA ended the 11-game unbeaten streak of the Generals (10-4-3, 8-1-3).
XULA's first team in 2023 won seven straight. The Gold Rush are 22-7-3 (.734) in two varsity seasons.
XULA's top three scorers of 2024 — Gustavo Oliveira, Leo Dutra and Leonardo Menzen — accounted for the goals. The Gold Rush led 1-0 at halftime after Menzen's goal with four minutes remaining. Dutra scored in the 62nd minute, then Oliveira scored in the 75th minute.
Goal assists, in order, went to Diego Pacheco, Julio Gruba and Menzen.
Oliveira has 10 goals — he leads XULA for the second straight season — and Dutra and Menzen have seven apiece.
Goalkeeper Breno Zanolla has yet to allow a goal to LSUA in three career games. The shutout was his fifth this season.
XULA and Louisiana Christian will kick off at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to close the regular season at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans City Park. XULA's women will play LCU at noon. Admission will be free.
