Gold Rush extend win streak to 9; Jarvis will visit Thursday in RRAC Tournament

2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer standings

NEW ORLEANS — Gustavo Oliveira's two-assist header in the 67th minute Saturday lifted Xavier University of Louisiana to a 1-0 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer victory against Louisiana Christian at Pan American Stadium.
XULA extended its school-record winning streak to nine games.
It was the regular-season finale for both teams. The Gold Rush (12-3-1 overall, 11-2 RRAC) finished second in the league and earned the No. 2 seed for the eight-team RRAC Tournament. XULA in the first round will play seventh-seeded Jarvis Christian at 1:30 p.m. Thursday (free admission) at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La. Quarterfinal winners will advance to Texarkana, Texas, for the final two rounds Nov. 12 and 14.
Oliveira scored with assists from Leo Dutra and Sebastian Pinto. Breno Zanolla (12-3-1) had two saves in his sixth shutout this season and the 16th of his two-year XULA career.
It's the third time in two seasons that Oliveira scored in a 1-0 victory, and the goal was his 24th in 27 career XULA games.
XULA became the first RRAC team to shut out the Wildcats (12-4-2, 9-3-1) this season. Louisiana Christian won the 2023 RRAC Tournament and reached the second round of NAIA nationals.
It was the first time the Gold Rush defeated a team receiving votes in the NAIA coaches poll. XULA was 0-4-2 in previous matchups, including a 2-all tie Sept. 7 at Mobile, No. 3 in the most recent rankings.
XULA extended its two-season home winning streak to 10 games and did not allow a first-half goal for the 12th consecutive game overall.
LSU-Shreveport (12-2-4, 11-0-2), despite a tie at 1 at Jarvis Christian, won its third consecutive RRAC regular-season championship.
