2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament
METAIRIE, La. —
Second-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana scored all its goals in the first half Thursday
and rolled to a 3-0 men's soccer victory against seventh-seeded Jarvis Christian in the opening
round of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at Lafreniere Park.
The XULA men (13-3-1)
extended their school-record winning streak to 10 and advanced to a 7:30 p.m.
Tuesday semifinal game at Judy Kelley Morgan Field in Texarkana, Texas, against third-seeded LSU-Alexandria.
The championship game will be two days later.
The Gold Rush and Bulldogs were
scoreless the first 28 minutes, then XULA exerted its will during the next 10.
Diego Pacheco scored with an assist from
Eduardo dos Santos at 28:31,
Leonardo Menzen made it 2-0 at 31:45 on a free kick from the top of the box,
then
Julio Gruba completed the scoring at 37:18, knocking in a
Juan Braz header
that
Sebastian Pinto set up with a corner kick.
Jarvis Christian lost
three players in the 48th minute because of red cards.
Breno Zanolla (13-3-1) faced one shot on goal, none in the
final 71 minutes, and notched his seventh shutout this season
and the 17th of his two-year XULA career. The shutout was XULA's fourth in a row
and its sixth during the winning streak.
The victory was XULA's 11th in a row at home
dating to its debut season of 2023. The Gold Rush are 15-1 all-time at home and finished 9-0 this season.
XULA outscored 16 home opponents 42-7 and produced 12 shutouts.
Jarvis Christian closed its season
5-9-4, 0-2-2 in its final four games.
