TEXARKANA, Texas —
Gustavo Oliveira's goal in the second minute of overtime lifted second-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana to a 1-0 men's soccer victory Tuesday night against third-seeded LSU-Alexandria in the semifinals of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament.
XULA (14-3-1) extended its school-record winning streak to 11 games. The Gold Rush will stay in Texarkana and play defending champion Louisiana Christian — fifth seeded but a 1-0 winner against top-seeded LSU-Shreveport in the first semifinal — at 3:30 p.m. Thursday at Judy Kelley Morgan Field for the championship and the Red River's second automatic bid to NAIA nationals.
LSUS earned the other automatic bid as RRAC regular-season champion.
Oliveira found the net from 25 yards away and on the left side. The goal was his 25th in 29 career XULA games.
XULA goalkeeper
Breno Zanolla (14-3-1) had four saves in his eighth shutout this season and the 18th of his two-year XULA career. It was the ninth Gold Rush shutout this season. Zanolla has yet to allow a goal to LSUA in four career games.
The shutout victory was XULA's school-record fifth in a row. It was XULA's first overtime game.
Both XULA teams will play for titles Thursday. The Gold Nuggets will face LSUA in the women's final at 1 p.m.
