Gold Rush are RRAC Tournament runner-up

2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer tournament
selection shows for NAIA nationals

TEXARKANA, Texas — Adrian Amoros Navarro assisted on the first goal and scored the other, both in the second half, to give fifth-seeded Louisiana Christian a 2-0 victory Thursday against second-seeded Xavier University of Louisiana in the championship game of the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament at Judy Kelley Morgan Field.
The Wildcats (14-4-3) repeated as tournament champion and earned the RRAC's second automatic bid to NAIA nationals, which will begin next week. Regular-season champion LSU-Shreveport earned the other bid.
XULA (14-4-1), which received votes in the most recent coaches poll, may earn consideration for an at-large bid. The NAIA will announce the tournament field and pairings online at 2 p.m. CST Saturday.
Amoros Navarro, the tournament MVP, passed to Lucas Lima for a goal in the 53rd minute. Amoros Navarro then scored unassisted in the final minute.
It was the 15th consecutive game that XULA did not allow a first-half goal.
Breno Zanolla broke his XULA record for saves in a game with 11. Twice in 2023 he set the previous mark of seven.
Louisiana Christian is the only opponent to outscore the Gold Rush by more than one goal in XULA's two varsity seasons. The Wildcats defeated XULA 2-0 in a 2023 RRAC Tournament semifinal.
XULA's Julio Gruba, Leonardo Menzen and Gustavo Oliveira were named to the 11-player all-tournament team.
The NAIA's tournament selection committee could consider XULA's 11 victories in its last 12 games, a 2-all tie at No. 3 Mobile, 1-0 losses at No. 12 William Carey and No. 19 LSUS, a 0.79 goals-against average — No. 14 in the NAIA this season — and nine shutout victories as reasons to award the Gold Rush an at-large bid.
