Gold Nuggets pull away; unbeaten streak is 12

2024 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer standings

AUSTIN, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana women's soccer scored three times in the final 25 minutes Saturday to earn a 4-1 Red River Athletic Conference victory against Huston-Tillotson.
The Gold Nuggets (11-3-1 overall, 10-0-1 RRAC) lead the Red River by one point over LSU-Shreveport (10-1 Red River) and three points over Louisiana Christian (9-1-1). The conference awards three points for each conference victory, one point for each tie and zero points for each loss. XULA has 31 points, LSUS 30 and Louisiana Christian 28.
XULA trailed for the first time in its last 15 Red River games — the Rams' America Macias scored on a penalty kick in the 10th minute — but the Gold Nuggets tied it in the 40th minute on Samira Roper's goal, then clinched on goals by Julia de Souza in the 66th minute and Shakiana Dagher and Lanettia Aikens in the 85th. The gap between the final two goals was 36 seconds.
XULA goalkeeper Luisa Bella saved four shots and earned her second victory of the season and her first since Sept. 21.
        Huston-Tillotson is 3-9-1 and 2-7-1.
The Gold Nuggets improved their program-record unbeaten streak to 12 — 11 victories and a tie. XULA outscored opponents 65-4 during the streak.
The Gold Nuggets will close the regular season at home: 11 a.m. Thursday at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La., against LSU-Alexandria and noon Saturday at Pan American Stadium in New Orleans against Louisiana Christian. Saturday's start time was moved up by an hour.
The XULA women have clinched a first-round home game Nov. 7 or 8 in the eight-team RRAC Tournament.
