LSUS prevails 1-0 on header in 87th minute

2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer standings

        SHREVEPORT, La. — For 43 minutes Thursday, Xavier University of Louisiana stood firmly while playing 10-men-against-11. Then David Dancetovic's header in the 87th minute after a Jack Thomas free kick gave LSU-Shreveport a 1-0 Red River Athletic Conference soccer victory.
        The Gold Rush (3-3-1 overall, 2-2 RRAC) will stay on the road and play Texas A&M-Texarkana at 3:30 p.m. Saturday.
        XULA managed only one shot on goal — Kyle McLeish had the save on Sebastian Pinto in the 83rd minute — and the Pilots clinched by clearing XULA's right-corner kick with 35 seconds remaining.
        XULA played a man down after Jeremy Shortt was assessed a red card in the 44th minute.
        The Pilots (6-2-2, 5-0) won their fifth in a row and remained the Red River's only team with an unblemished conference record.
        In other RRAC games Thursday:
        •  LSU-Alexandria won 5-1 at Texas College.
        •  Louisiana Christian won 1-0 at Jarvis Christian.
        •  Southwest (N.M.), playing at home, tied at 3 with Our Lady of the Lake
