Gold Rush win 5-1 at TAMUT

2024 Red River Athletic Conference men's soccer standings

TEXARKANA, Texas — Xavier University of Louisiana men's soccer scored three times in the final 22 minutes Saturday to pull away for a 5-1 Red River Athletic Conference victory against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
The Gold Rush (4-3-1 overall, 3-2 RRAC) tied the program record for second-half goals and won for the third time in four games.
XULA never trailed and led 2-0 at the break after Leonardo Menzen's goal in the 34th minute and Gustavo Oliveira's goal in the final 10 seconds of the period. Then the Eagles (4-5-2, 2-3-1) cut the lead in half on Diego Picano's penalty kick in the 61st minute.
But XULA withstood that threat, getting a Juan Braz goal in the 69th minute and Leo Dutra goals in the 72nd and 77th minutes. Braz and Dutra scored for the first time this season.
Goalkeeper Breno Zanolla had three saves in his fourth victory this season.
Oliveira scored his team-leading sixth goal of 2024 and his 19th in 21 career XULA games.
The XULA men will play their next four games at home, including 3:30 p.m. kickoffs Thursday and Saturday against conference opponents Texas College and Jarvis Christian. XULA home games offer free admission at Lafreniere Park in suburban Metairie, La.
