2024 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer standings
TEXARKANA, Texas —
Xavier University of Louisiana women's soccer took sole possession of first
place in the Red River Athletic Conference after a 1-0 victory Saturday against Texas A&M-Texarkana.
The Gold Nuggets (6-3 overall, 5-0 RRAC)
set a program record with their sixth consecutive victory. Five of those wins were shutouts,
and four of them were on the road.
Samira Roper's goal in the 27th minute —
XULA's only shot on goal — put XULA ahead to stay.
Shakiana Dagher assisted. Goalkeeper
Theresa Wiesiolek produced four saves,
recorded her second shutout and is 5-2 this season.
Texas A&M-Texarkana is 9-1 and 5-1.
It was the second time in three days the Gold Nuggets gave an RRAC opponent its
first conference loss; XULA won 4-2 Thursday at LSU-Shreveport, which entered 4-0.
"This week was a huge test for us against two very strong opponents,"
XULA head coach
Ashley Cordeiro said. "I am very proud of each of the ladies for working together as a team
to get these vital six points while being on the road. It is not easy to win on the road,
especially against teams who are in form, so that's a huge testament to our team's determination."
Roper scored for the fifth consecutive game and
in six of the last seven games. Roper needs two goals to tie teammate
Luci Schroeder's
program record of 12, set during XULA's inaugural season in 2023.
This was the second straight year that the Gold Nuggets
gave TAMUT its first loss of the season. The Eagles started 10-0 in 2023 before losing 4-3 at XULA.
LSU-Alexandria and Louisiana Christian are 4-0-1 apiece in the RRAC, and LSUS, like TAMUT,
is 5-1. The Red River's other nine teams have two-or-more losses.
The Gold Nuggets will play their next four games
at home, including 1 p.m. kickoffs Thursday and Saturday against conference opponents
Texas College and Jarvis Christian. XULA home games offer free admission at Lafreniere Park in
suburban Metairie, La.
In other RRAC games Saturday:
• Houston-Victoria won 2-0 at Huston-Tillotson.
• Louisiana Christian won 8-0 at Texas College.
