COLUMBIA, Mo. — Xavier University of Louisiana's Skylah Barton ran 6,000 meters in a career-best 25 minutes, 5.9 seconds Friday in the women's division of the NAIA National Cross Country Championships at Gans Creek Cross Country Course.
Barton's previous 6K best was 25:14.37 Oct. 18 at the Watson Collegiate Classic in Clinton, Miss. Her Friday time is the Gold Nuggets' fastest 6K since Catherine Fakler (24:07.38) and Zahri Jackson (25:01.34) in 2012.
Barton was XULA's only runner at this meet. She placed 285th out of 327 women. The Gold Nuggets did not qualify for team scoring.
The Master's outscored Taylor 92-93 to win the team title, and Taylor freshman Jaynie Halterman was the individual champion in 20:24.7.
Next for XULA's women and men will be the indoor track and field season.
