       NEW ORLEANS — Freshman Chris-Ann Edwards was the fastest finisher for Xavier University of Louisiana women's cross country Friday in the season-opening Battle for New Orleans at Lake Oaks Park.
       Edwards ran 4,000 meters in 19 minutes, 38.82 seconds to place 83rd out of 90 runners.
       Also competing for the Gold Nuggets were Dakota West, 85th in 21:28.16, and
Leojai Hibbert, 90th in 25:27.39.
       Tulane freshman Dorcas Naibei was individual champion in 13:31.12. The Green Wave had five of the first six finishers and outscored Southern Miss 18-71 to win the team championship.  XULA did not qualify for team scoring.
       XULA's women and men will compete next Friday in the Mississippi College Opener at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss. The men's 5,000-meter race will start at 6 p.m., followed by the women at 6:45 running the same distance.
