BROOKINGS, S.D. — Xavier University of Louisiana's
Kynnedy Turner missed qualifying for the women's 200-meter dash final by less than a quarter of a second Friday at the NAIA Indoor Track & Field Championships.
Turner's time of 24.70 seconds ranked ninth out of 22 athletes and was 23-hundredths of a second behind the final qualifier, Alyssa Busker of Trinity Christian. The three heat winners and the next five fastest sprinters advanced to Saturday's final.
XULA scored no points in the women's long jump or the men's high jump. XULA did not advance to the finals in four other track events.
Turner will compete Saturday in the 1,600 relay final with
Fedjine Bell, Jaelyn Mitchell and Nevaeh Lacey. The Gold Rush relay team of Jaheene Bell,
Juston Tweh, Daunté Kelly and
Winston Young will compete in the men's 1,600 final. Both XULA teams advanced in Thursday preliminary races.
XULA has three of the top five qualifiers in the men's triple jump, which is scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Saturday.
Seth Alexander has the No. 1 mark of 15.45 meters (50 feet, 8 1/4 inches), with teammates
Blake Harris second at 15.03 (49-3 3/4) and
Ovane Williams fifth at 14.83 (48-8). At the 2023 NAIA outdoor nationals, Alexander and Harris finished 1-3 — and Alexander became XULA's first NAIA national champion in this sport.
