        LAFAYETTE, La. — Five Xavier University of Louisiana athletes in four events qualified for NAIA nationals at the Louisiana Classics track and field meet Saturday.
        Freshmen Fedjine Bell and Jaelyn Mitchell qualified in two women's events apiece.
        The qualifiers:
        •  Mitchell in the 200-meter dash, 24.59 seconds
        •  Bell in the 400, 57.17
        •  The women's 400 relay team of Bell, Nevaeh Lacey, Tanii O'Gwin and Mitchell, 47.03
        •  Two-time NAIA national champion Seth Alexander in the men's triple jump, 14.75 meters/48 feet, 4 3/4 inches
        Alexander and Dayton Jamierson had XULA's only top-five finishes in this meet, which included eight NCAA Division I schools. Alexander was third in the triple jump and the long jump, the latter with a personal best of 7.11 meters/23 feet, 4 inches, and Jamierson was fifth in the men's high jump at 1.99 meters/6-6 1/4.
        Winston Young of the Gold Rush was eighth in the 400 in 48.40, two-hundredths of a second from the NAIA nationals qualifying mark.
        The meet was XULA's second of the outdoor season. NAIA nationals will be May 22-24 at Marion, Ind. Next for the Gold Rush and Gold Nuggets will be the Southern Miss Invitational March 29-30 at Hattiesburg, Miss.
