2024 Red River Athletic Conference
women's soccer standings
HOBBS, N.M. —
Alina Paiz and
Samira Roper scored two goals apiece Thursday
to lead Xavier University of Louisiana in a 7-0 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer victory against the University of the Southwest.
It was the RRAC opener for both teams. The Gold Nuggets won the regular-season championship
a year ago in their first varsity season.
Paiz, a freshman midfielder and a New Orleanian, scored XULA's third and fourth
goals — in the 33rd and 43rd minutes — and the Gold Nuggets led 4-0 at halftime. Roper scored twice in the first four minutes of the second half.
Also scoring for the Gold Nuggets:
Julia de Souza in the second minute,
Gabriela Gonzalez in the seventh and
Faye Butterworth in the 56th.
Luci Schroeder had two assists, and goalkeeper
Theresa Wiesiolek assisted
on Paiz's first goal.
Wiesiolek and
Luisa Bella combined for the shutout, which was the Gold Nuggets' second in a row, both on the road.
Roper, a junior forward and a transfer from two-year Eastern Florida State College,
leads XULA this season with three goals. Paiz's goals were her first two of the season.
Next for XULA will be a Red River doubleheader Saturday in Dallas against Paul Quinn at Gio Macias Field. The women's game will start at 11 a.m., followed by the men at 1:30 p.m.
In other RRAC games Thursday:
