MOBILE, Ala. — Xavier University of Louisiana scored three first-half goals Saturday and rolled to a 4-0 women's soccer victory against the University of Mobile.
It was the first-ever regular-season non-conference road victory for the Gold Nuggets (1-3), a second-year NAIA varsity program that reached the second round of the 2023 national tournament.
"A very solid team performance," XULA head coach
Ashley Cordeiro said. "It's never easy to get a win and a clean sheet on the road, so we are proud of that. Hopefully this momentum carries into the start of conference play."
XULA got goals from
Maureen Owusu in the 18th minute,
Luci Schroeder in the 19th minute and
Shakiana Dagher in the 37th. The Rams (2-2-1) chipped in an own goal in the 80th minute.
Owusu scored on a header after Dagher's free kick. Schroeder, third-team NAIA All-America in 2023, stole the ball at midfield and scored from 35 yards away.
Theresa Wiesiolek earned the shutout in goal. Wiesiolek faced six shots, one on goal.
Next for the Gold Nuggets will be two road games to start their Red River Athletic Conference schedule: 1 p.m. MDT Sept. 19 at Southwest in Hobbs, N.M., and 11 a.m. Sept. 21 at Paul Quinn in Dallas. XULA's next home game will be Sept. 28.
