Another shutout victory for Gold Nuggets

METAIRIE, La. — Xavier University of Louisiana got first-half goals from Faye Butterworth and Samira Roper in a 2-0 Red River Athletic Conference women's soccer victory Thursday against Texas A&M-Texarkana at Lafreniere Park.
The Gold Nuggets (5-2-2 overall, 4-0-1 RRAC) wore pink in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness Month and snapped the 10-game unbeaten streak of the Eagles (8-2-2, 3-1-1), who were shut out for the first time this season.
Butterworth made it 1-0 in the 27th minute with an unassisted goal, then Roper scored in the 38th minute with an assist from Juliana Kottbauer.
Goalkeeper Luisa Bella produced three saves in her eighth career shutout. TAMUT managed only one shot on goal in the final 61 minutes.
XULA is one of two NAIA women's teams this season with five-or-more league games and zero goals allowed. The other is eighth-ranked Oklahoma Wesleyan, which is 8-0 in the Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference.
Roper's goal was her 15th this season, which ties her for seventh in the NAIA. Roper scored a school-season-record 19 goals in 2024.
XULA is 4-0 at home this season, all by shutout.
Weather at kickoff (1:06 p.m. CDT): sunny, 85 degrees, heat index 89, humidity 59 percent, north-northeast wind at 8 mph.
The Gold Nuggets will play host to RRAC opponent Jarvis Christian at 1 p.m. Saturday at Metairie Park Country Day School's Freedom Field. Address is 716 Frisco Ave. in Metairie, and admission will be free. XULA after that game will honor its nine seniors: Butterworth, Roper, Lanettia Aikens, Paula Camus, Crislyn Gregory, Charley Prouse, Amelia Suma, Amelia Thompson and Jayda Wyatt.
