        MARIETTA, Ga. — Xavier University of Louisiana outscored nine opponents Sunday morning in a victory for the Gold at the season-opening Life University Classic.
        XULA won with 93.15 points. City rival Loyola was second with 85.13 points, followed by Tennessee Southern with 84.66, Marian (Ind.) with 82.70, Florida Memorial with 80.88, Point with 71.61, William Carey with 71.06, Life with 69.86, Brewton-Parker with 58.00 and Milligan with 48.40.
        XULA will play host to its Battle in the Big Easy Friday and Saturday at the Convocation Center.
        A year ago XULA finished second at NAIA nationals, then won a National Cheerleaders Association national title in the advanced large coed NAIA division.
