Gilipps, Jegede give Gold Rush another RRAC sweep

        NEW ORLEANS — Xavier University of Louisiana's Andrew Gilipps (men's track) and Tele Jegede (field) were selected Red River Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week for March 24-30.
        The RRAC announced the awards Tuesday.
        Gilipps — a sophomore from Moneague, Jamaica, and a transfer from Hinds Community College — ran the 100-meter dash in 10.59 seconds and the 200 in 21.98 at the Southern Miss Invitational in Hattiesburg. Gilipps placed third out of 49 athletes in the 100. Gilipps also helped XULA finish fourth in the 400 relay in 41.77.
        Jegede — a senior from Shorewood, Ill., and a graduate of Minooka Community High School — produced marks of 44.40 meters/145 feet, 8 inches in the discus and 12.36 meters/40 feet, 6 3/4 inches in the shot put. Jegede placed 12th out of 35 discus throwers.
        XULA's men and women will compete Friday and Saturday at Southern University's Pelican Relays in Baton Rouge, La.
