NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana's
Jaheene Bell and
Mansur Ali are
Red River Athletic Conference Athletes of the Week in men's track and field for the third time this season.
Bell won the track award, and Ali
won in field. The RRAC
announced the awards Tuesday.
Bell — a sophomore from Old Harbour, Jamaica,
and a graduate of Saint Catherine High School —
won two events at the RRAC Championships: the 400-meter dash and the 400 intermediate
hurdles. He repeated as conference champion in the hurdles and produced the fastest men's time at the Red River in
15 years in this event.
Ali — a freshman from Pike Road, Ala.,
and a graduate of Pike Road High School — was top three in four events, including a victory in the shot put.
He produced a college PR in the javelin.
Both Bell and Ali won high-point awards after the meet.
Ali's 32 points led all RRAC men. They helped the Gold Rush finish second in team scoring.
XULA's men and women will compete at noon Saturday
in a last-chance triangular meet at Tad Gormley Stadium with city rivals Dillard and Loyola.
