NEW ORLEANS —
Xavier University of Louisiana women's volleyball is 2-0 on opening day for the first time
after its 25-11, 25-18, 25-12 victory against Florida Memorial in the
Wolf Pack Welcome tournament.
The Den of city rival Loyola
is the tournament venue.
The Gold Nuggets will play Saturday in the tournament's
final two games: 3 p.m. against IU South Bend, 5 p.m. against Loyola. The home opener will start
at 6 p.m. Thursday.
Kennedy Campbell had six kills and a career-high six blocks for XULA,
and
Sydney Murray had eight kills and a career-high six aces.
Kamea Uitenham had five kills,
Taylor Parker had six blocks,
Michaela Clayton had 11 digs, and
Charity Metcalf had 14 assists.
L'Fe Roberts had five kills and seven digs for Florida Memorial (0-6).
XULA outhit the Lions .139 to minus-.139 and
produced advantages of 27-15 in kills, 14-4 in aces, 9-3 in blocks and 30-23 in digs.
The Gold Nuggets opened the season with a
25-21, 25-14, 25-22 victory
against Science and Arts.
"We had a good day. We played hard," ninth-year head coach
Pat Kendrick said.
"Our players were ready to play somebody other than themselves."
