NAIA No. 2 William Carey defeats Gold Nuggets

HATTIESBURG, Miss. — Xavier University of Louisiana women's soccer shut out NAIA No. 2 William Carey during the final 62 minutes, but the Lady Crusaders scored three times before that to earn a 3-0 victory Saturday.
Goals by Lauren Entremont in the third minute, Alessia Navarro in the 19th and Karen Vilau in the 28th powered Carey (5-1) to its fourth victory in as many tries against the Gold Nuggets (1-2-1), a third-year program.
XULA produced seven shots but only one on goal, by Alina Paiz in the 58th minute.
It was the Gold Nuggets' third consecutive game, all on the road, against a top-25 opponent. They lost 4-1 to No. 20 Life Sept. 5 and tied No. 17 Georgia Gwinnett at 3 Sunday.
Next for XULA will be its Red River Athletic Conference opener: Sept. 25 at 1 p.m. against Texas College at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La. It will be a doubleheader; the XULA and Texas College men will kick off at 3:30 p.m. All XULA home games offer free admission.
