Records for Roper, Kottbauer; Gold Nuggets rout Lady Steers

METAIRIE, La. — Program-record performances by Samira Roper and Juliana Kottbauer powered Xavier University of Louisiana to a 15-0 women's soccer victory Thursday against Texas College at Lafreniere Park.
It was the Red River Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Roper scored four times, and Kottbauer's three assists tied the XULA record.
XULA's eight goals were its most ever in a first half.
Chie Akayama and Amelia Thompson scored twice apiece, and Kottbauer, Anita Roese, Fauziya Prothro, Faye Butterworth, Lea Cordier, Jayda Wyatt and Lanettia Aikens scored one goal apiece. Wyatt and Amelia Suma had two assists apiece.
XULA goalkeepers Luisa Bella (starter) and Paula Camus split the time. Camus, a senior and a transfer from UT Permian Basin, made her XULA debut.
XULA produced advantages of 53-0 in shots and 30-0 in shots on goal.
Weather at kickoff (3:32 p.m. CDT): cloudy, 82 degrees, heat index 89, humidity 75 percent, west wind at 6 mph. Predictions of a 60-percent chance of afternoon thunderstorms missed the mark.
The Gold Nuggets are 2-2-1, and the Lady Steers are 0-2-1. XULA will play host to RRAC opponent Southwest (N.M.) at 1 p.m. Saturday at Lafreniere Park. Admission is free. It'll be a doubleheader; the NAIA No. 18 XULA men will kick off at 3:30 p.m. against Southwest.
