METAIRIE, La. —
Iman Ouedraogo shattered the Xavier University of Louisiana men's soccer record for assists in a game and led the NAIA No. 18 Gold Rush to a 6-0 victory Thursday against Texas College at Lafreniere Park.
It was the Red River Athletic Conference opener for both teams.
Ouedraogo's four assists broke the previous record of two held by four others, including teammate
Caleb Evans and student assistant
Julio Gruba. Ouedraogo also tied a XULA game record with six points. Two points are awarded for each goal, one point for each assist.
XULA matched its record for goals in a game — it happened twice in 2024 — and tied the Gold Rush mark for second-half goals with four.
Ouedraogo assisted on goals by
Guilherme Domingues in the 10th minute,
Artur Rubim in the 43rd minute,
Antonio Merola in the 88th minute and
Giancarlo Dostilio in the final minute. Ouedrago scored off of Merola's corner kick in the 85th minute, and Merola notched his first goal in the 78th minute with an assist from
Lennart Niederlaender.
Goalkeeper
Breno Zanolla worked his 21st career shutout for the Gold Rush. Zanolla's teammates made it easy for him; XULA produced advantages of 25-0 in shots and 16-0 in shots on goal.
At home XULA won for the 13th consecutive time and the sixth consecutive time by shutout.
Weather at kickoff (3:32 p.m. CDT): cloudy, 81 degrees, heat index 88, humidity 81 percent, west wind at 7 mph. Predictions of afternoon thunderstorms fell flat, and the sun peeked through the clouds late in the game.
The Gold Rush are 4-1-1, and the Steers are 0-4. XULA will play host to RRAC opponent Southwest (N.M.) at 3:30 p.m. Saturday at Lafreniere Park. Admission is free. It'll be a doubleheader; the XULA women will kick off at 1 p.m. against Southwest.
