MARIETTA, Ga. —
Sacha Millward and Victoria Valles scored two goals apiece Friday to
lead NAIA No. 20 Life University to a 4-1 women's soccer victory
against Xavier University of Louisiana.
The Gold Nuggets (1-1)
will remain in metro Atlanta and play NAIA No. 17 Georgia Gwinnett
at noon EDT Sunday in Lawrenceville.
Life (4-0) led 2-0 at halftime
after Millward goals in the 13th and 17th minutes. Valles scored in the 66th and 71st minutes.
All of the Running Eagles' goals were unassisted.
XULA's
Samira Roper scored in the 86th minute
with an assist from
Juliana Kottbauer. Roper has scored all three of the Gold Nuggets' goals this season,
and Roper's two-season total of 22 goals is four behind school career record-holder
Luci Schroeder.
Life had a 16-15 advantage in shots, and both teams
had nine shots on goal. Life goalkeeper Elora Niederpruem made eight saves.
It was the first of three consecutive XULA road games against
ranked NAIA opponents. After Sunday, the Gold Nuggets will travel to Hattiesburg, Miss., to play second-ranked
William Carey. XULA's next home game will be its Red River Athletic Conference opener, 1 p.m. Sept. 25 against
Texas College at Lafreniere Park in Metairie, La.
