Women's Soccer falls in conference match against No. 10 William Carey

HATTIESBURG, Miss. - The Gold Nuggets fought hard but succumbed to a pair of late goals in a 3-1 loss to nationally ranked William Carey in SSAC play Saturday afternoon.

Xavier (10-4-2, 9-2-1 SSAC) trailed the No. 10 Crusaders (13-2-2, 11-1-0 SSAC) early, as William Carey scored a goal in the second minute.

The Gold Nuggets rebounded well, though, keeping WCU at bay for the remainder of the half and equalizing in the 40th minute when Julia Gurgel scored on an assist from Anita Roese.

Unfortunately, William Carey took the lead again in the 70th minute, then logged an insurance goal in the 83rd minute.

XULA keeper Aylin Yildirim made 8 saves in the match, a contest in which William Carey got 11 shots on goal.

By contrast, Xavier got off 13 total shots, 4 of which were on goal.

The Gold Nuggets have one game remaining in their regular season before embarking on their postseason journey, a home match against Thomas at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
