BRUNSWICK, Ga. - After battling through a tough early-season schedule, the No. 8 Xavier women's tennis team officially eclipsed the .500 mark here Friday, picking up a 6-1 win over Coastal Georgia.
The match, which was XULA's second of three scheduled contests in the 2026 Coastal Invitational, was all Gold Nuggets.
Xavier (4-3) took 5-of-6 singles matches, with No. 1 Maja Brnic defeating Karlie Scott Kersey 6-2, 6-0; No. 2 McKenna Wheatley defeating Gabriella Rodrigues 6-3, 6-0; No. 3 Ana Sabikova defeating Luna Feillon 6-2, 6-0; No. 4 Anais Yakan defeating Manon Baudet 6-1, 6-3; and No. 5 Valeria Ortega defeating Gabriela Miteva 7-6(3), 6-1.
The Gold Nuggets also claimed the doubles points with wins by Wheatley and Brnic at No. 1 and Sabikova and Makai Sales at No. 2.
This was the second consecutive 6-1 win for the Xavier women, who defeated No. 11 SCAD-Savannah by the same score Thursday.
Xavier is scheduled to complete its three-match series in the Coastal Invitational Saturday morning with a visit to SCAD-Atlanta. However, the potential for rain in the region is threatening that contest.
If the SCAD-Atlanta match is canceled, Xavier's next match would be Friday, Feb. 27, at home against NCAA Division I opponent Norfolk State.
