NEW ORLEANS - The XULA men gave NCAA Division I opponent Norfolk State quite a battle, but came up a little short in a hard-fought, 5-2 loss Friday. 

The Gold Rush (5-3) picked up singles wins from Christian Sanchez in the No. 3 singles and Emmanuel Jebutu in the No. 4.

Sanchez defeated Szymon Janzen 7-6(4), 6-3; and Jebutu defeated Marcin Dójczynski 6-7(7), 6-3, 6-3. 

Sanchez also partnered with Nereo Suarez to win the doubles No. 1 match 6-3 over Janzen and Marcin Andrzejczak, but the point ultimately went to Norfolk State. 

Xavier travels to Jackson State on Saturday for a second consecutive match against an NCAA Division I team.
