JACKSON, Miss. - Xavier's men's tennis team brought the fight to NCAA Division I opponent Jackson State, but ultimately fell 4-2 in a hard-fought match. 

Nereo Suarez and Christian Sanchez had strong days for the Gold Rush (5-4). 

Suarez won his No. 1 singles match 6-4, 6-4 over Federico Pickenstainer, while Sanchez defeated Ching Chang Chiu 6-3, 7-5 at No. 2. 

The pair also worked together to defeat Fabrizio Fallas and Gokalp Ayar 6-4 in the No. 1 doubles match; however, JSU won the other two doubles matches and were awarded the doubles point. 

Next up for Xavier is three consecutive matches against Top 25 teams, all at home. The first of those contests is Thursday at 2 p.m. at the XULA complex and pits the Gold Rush against No. 25 Lewis-Clark State of Iowa.
