NEW ORLEANS - Xavier's co-ed competitive cheerers were the stars of their popular home contest, sweeping all of their matches over two days of competition.
The annual Battle in the Big Easy, which attracts competitive cheer and dance teams from across the nation to the Convocation Center, offered a unique blend of spirit, athleticism, and culture; and XULA excelled in every area.
Thursday night, in the third cheer match of Day 1, Xavier took first with a score of 85.5, which was 8 points better than second-place Simpson.
Friday, in the only cheer match of the day, XULA took its talents to the next level, posting a 94.1 total score - which is 5.9 points off of a perfect performance - 11 points better than second-place Tennessee Southern.

Cheer scoring in calculated on a 100-point scale and based on building (40 points), tumbling (30 points), overall mastery (20 points), and overall effect (10 points), with mandatory deductions for errors.
Dance scoring is also out of 100, but based on the composite score of five judges.
