NEW ORLEANS, La. - XULA's men's tennis team stormed past in-city rival and nationally ranked Dillard Thursday, defeating the No. 15 Bleu Bevils 4-0.
The Gold Rush (6-4), currently ranked No. 11 in the nation, got the doubles point with wins at No. 1 by Nereo Suarez and Christian Sanchez and No. 3 by Edilson Rosa and Samy Dahmany.
Suarez and Sanchez defeated Siddharth Arya and Jesus Rodriguez 6-1, while Rosa and Dahmany defeated Nour Ibrahim and Amar Erndenechullun 6-3.
In the singles matches, Xavier swept through numbers 1-3 to secure the win. Suarez defeated Rodriguez 7-5, 6-1 at No. 1, Sanchez defeated Ibrahim 6-4, 4-6, 6-1 at No. 2, and Emmanuel Jebutu defeated Tarique Bobia 4-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.
Thursday was the first of three consecutive Top 25 opponents for Xavier. The Gold Rush continues the stretch Friday with a 2 p.m. match against No. 25 Lewis-Clark State, which is visiting the Big Easy from Idaho.
