No. 6 Gold Rush fall to No. 5 Crusaders

NEW ORLEANS - The No. 6 Xavier women's team fought hard but took a tough, 5-2 loss to No. 5 William Carey in the final match of the regular season. 

The Gold Nuggets, which had fallen 4-0 in an early-season match at William Carey, showed improvement in their second encounter with the Crusaders. 

Xavier claimed the doubles point after McKenna Wheatley and Maja Brnic defeated Victoria Vieten and Isabella Lechuga 6-0 at No. 1, and Asadah Ma'at and Valeria Ortega defeated Malak Abarkane and Li-Hsien Lin 6-4 at No. 3. The day was particularly important for Wheatley, who was honored as part of Senior Day. 

Ortega had the best day of any Gold Nugget, defeating Abarkane 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 4 singles. 

Next up for XULA is the Red River Athletic Conference Tournament, which takes place April 16-18 on campus.
