Xavier defeats No. 23 TAMUT in RRAC opening round

NEW ORLEANS - The Gold Nuggets got off to a great start in the 2026 RRAC Championship tournament, defeating No. 23 Texas A&M Texarkana 4-0 in the opening round. 

XULA, currently ranked No. 6 in the nation, claimed the doubles points after Maja Brnic and McKenna Wheatley defeated Ana Gonzalez and Lucia Siddens 6-1 at No. 1, and Asadah Ma'at  Valeria Ortega defeated Andrea Castillo and Zahra Dreyer-Ferreira 6-2 at No. 3. 

In the singles matches, Xavier put the match out of reach for TAMUT with wins at No. 1, No. 2, and No. 5. 

Brnic defeated Gonzalez 6-2, 6-2 at No. 1, Wheatley defeated Dreyer-Ferreira 6-1, 6-2 at No. 2, and Ma'at defeated Castillo 6-2, 6-1 at No. 5. 

Xavier's next match will be in the RRAC semifinals, against either LSU-Shreveport or Louisiana Christian, on Friday at noon.
