Gold Rush defeat TAMUT in XULA Invitational

NEW ORLEANS - The Gold Rush picked up a big win in their first match of the 2026 Men's Tennis XULA Invitational, defeating Texas A&M Texarkana 4-2 on Friday. 

Xavier (14-7) picked up the doubles point as well as wins at No. 1, 2, and 5 singles. 

In the doubles matches, the No. 1 pairing Nereo Suarez and Christian Sanchez defeated Lawson Swain and Fedir Zalievskyi 6-0, and the No. 3 duo of Martin Rivera and Gabriel Velez defeated Alvaro Tormo Lopez and Lucas Yamaguti 6-4. 

Suarez had a typically strong day, picking up the win at No. 1 singles with a 6-2, 6-0 showing against Sebastian Romanos. 

Sannchez defeated Zalievskyi 6-4. 7-5 at No. 2 singles, and Edilson Rosa defeated Marc Gonzalez 6-1, 6-3 at No. 5. 

Xavier wraps its 2026 invitational appearance on Saturday at noon with a match against in-city rival and national No. 12 Dillard.
