METAIRIE, La. - XULA Women's Soccer's conference-opening matches against Thomas Thursday might have been called due to inclement weather, but the team was still able to take a stand for suicide prevention. 

Players and coaches met at midfield at Lafreniere Park to display a poster that read "You Are Not Alone: Call or Text 988." The players also included messages of encouragement for those who might be facing a moment of crisis. 

September is National Suicide Prevention Month, and Sept. 10 is World Suicide Prevention Day. The 988 number is the method by which those in need can connect with the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline, a national service that provides confidential emotional support to people in suicidal crisis or emotional distress 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
