Gold Rush come up just short against #7 Life

MARIETTA, Ga. - The Xavier men's soccer team showed it had the quality to match the best program in the nation, hanging with No. 7 Life in a game that the Gold Rush eventually lost 2-1. 

XULA (4-4-1, 2-2-1 SSAC) kept a high-energy offence from Life (9-1-1, 5-0-1 SSAC) at bay for most of the match, save a pair of first-half goals that proved the difference in the contest. 

Bruno Abdallah gave the Gold Rush the lead briefly in the first half with an unassisted goal, and goalie Lenno Schmidt made 7 saves on the day. 

Sunday's match was the final of a four-game conference road swing for Xavier, which played three teams ranked or receiving votes in the NAIA poll. 

The Gold Rush get a well-earned break next week, before a busy stretch with three conference matches over the course of five days in early August.

Up next, Xavier will complete a make-up date with Thomas (Ga.) on Tuesday, Oct. 6, at 1 p.m. in Metairie's Lafreniere Park. The team will welcome Andrew College on Thursday, Oct. 8, at 3 p.m. and Point on Saturday, Oct. 10, at 3:30 p.m.
