for 30 kills Friday, and
Franziska Pirkl produced her second double-double of
the season in Xavier University of Louisiana's 25-18, 23-25, 25-20, 25-17
women's volleyball victory against Union (Tenn.) in the Hampton Inn Wolfpack
Classic at The Den.
The Gold Nuggets (13-5) won for the eighth time in their
last nine matches and extended their school-record road winning streak to 11.
The Lady Bulldogs (4-15), a longtime NAIA member in their first year of candidacy for
NCAA Division II, lost for the 12th time in 13 matches.
Reuther had 19 kills, and Kirk had 11 kills and a season-high
four aces. Pirkl had 39 assists, a career-best 15 digs, five kills and a career-high-tying five aces.
Xavier's
Chinedu Echebelem had eight kills and a season-high-tying
14 digs, and
Jodi Chatters produced 11 digs to reach double figures for the first time.
Abbey Wainwright had 12 kills for Union, and Elise Seufert
had eight digs.
Xavier outhit Union .316 to .218 in the teams' first-ever
meeting and had advantages of 55-43 in aces, 15-4 in aces and 58-44 in digs.
Xavier's second and final match of this event will begin
at 6 p.m. today against the host, city rival Loyola.
