NORTH MIAMI BEACH, Fla. — Xavier University of
Louisiana's men's and women's tennis teams concluded their spring-break trip with Thursday
losses to ASA Miami. The Gold Rush lost 6-3, and the Gold Nuggets lost 9-0.
Both ASA teams are ranked first in the National Junior
College Athletic Association. Because ASA is a 2-year school, the results
will not be included in Xavier's record or statistics, per NAIA rules.
Winning matches for the Gold Rush were
Tushar Mandlekar
and
Manav Chakma in a 9-7 No. 3 doubles decision against Rasheed Carey and
Patricio Zarazua;
Karan Salwan in a 2-6, 6-2, 6-2 No. 1 singles decision
against Callum Poland-Smith; and
Kyle Montrel in a 6-3, 6-2 No. 3 singles
decision against Federico Gomez.
Mandlekar and teammates
Adam Albrecht and
Thomas Setodji
lost 3-set singles matches.
The XU women did not win a set. The Gold Nuggets'
most competitive singles matches were at No. 4, where
Sha'Nel Bruins
lost 6-1, 6-4 to Mingxiu Du, and at No. 5, where
Tess Guarino lost 6-4, 6-1
to Mikala Lowrance.
ASA Miami's men are 11-1 and have an
11-dual win streak, and its women are 19-1 with a 17-dual win streak. Both
squads have defeated NCAA Division I opponents this season.
The previous two days of the trip, Xavier's men and women won
dual matches against St. Thomas (Fla.) and Keiser.
Xavier's next duals will start at 2 p.m. Tuesday
against Northwestern Ohio at XU Tennis Center. All four teams are ranked
among the NAIA's top 16. The NAIA will announce new team rankings late Tuesday afternoon.
