Sanchez wins major ITA regional award

XULA men's tennis freshman sensation Christian Sanchez has been named the ITA South Region Rookie of the Year.

Sanchez, a native of Bogotá, Colombia, joined the Gold Rush at the beginning of Spring. To say he made up for lost time would be a massive understatement.

He not only stormed up the XULA rankings - he started the year on the fifth and sixth singles courts, but rather quickly became a mainstay at No. 2 singles - but also ascended to the upper echelon on ITA's national player rankings.

As of May 18th, Sanchez is the No. 10-rated singles player in the NAIA, thanks to an 18-2 record.

In doubles play, primarily at No. 1 with Nereo Suarez, Sanchez went 18-1, for a 92 percent win rate.

Suarez and Sanchez are currently the No. 4-ranked pairing in the NAIA.
