NEW ORLEANS —

won in doubles and singles Thursday to lead NAIA No. 3 Xavier University of Louisiana
to a record-breaking 5-0 victory against Alcorn State at XU Tennis Center.
Alcorn State's women defeated 15th-ranked Xavier 5-1.
The XU men (13-5) set a program record with their
fifth victory this season against an NCAA Division I opponent. The Gold Rush of
2008, 2009 and 2013 beat four DIs apiece.
Setodji and
Tushar Mandlekar defeated Vasudev Vijayaraman and Nuno Rocha 8-2 at No. 2
doubles, then Setodji improved to 12-0 in singles — 7-0 against NCAA DIs —
by beating Vijayaraman 6-0, 6-1 on the second court.
Montrel and
Adam Albrecht beat Killian Salgado and Javon Yarbarough 8-1 at No. 3
doubles, then Montrel ended the dual with a 6-0, 6-1 victory against Rocha at No. 3.
The other XU victory occurred at No. 1 doubles, where
Kevin Chaouat and
Karan Salwan beat Nikita Kostikov and Nischay Rawall 8-5.
Earlier in the day, the SWAC announced that Kostikov and Rawall were first-team all-conference.
It was the first Gold Rush shutout of an NCAA DI opponent
since 4-0 at Alcorn State in 2012, and it was the first time it happened at home
since 9-0 against Jackson State in 2009.
The XU men concluded their home schedule 7-0 and extended
their two-year home win streak to 13.
Alcorn State's women won 8-5 on all three doubles courts
and clinched at No. 3 singles when Siobhan Ryan-Bovey defeated
Brion Flowers 7-5, 6-3.
The lone point of the Gold Nuggets (8-12) came from
Charlene Goreau, who defeated Aida Kelic 6-2, 6-1
at No. 1. Leading 5-0 when the dual was halted was XU's
Sha'Nel Bruins against Patricia Normand.
Alcorn State's women are 11-13, and its men are 3-13.
Honored in a ceremony before the matches were six XU seniors:
Flowers,
Vashni Balleste and
Jana van der Walt of the Nuggets and Chaouat, Montrel and
Manav Chakma of the Rush.
Both XU teams will close the regular season with duals
at the University of New Orleans. The Gold Nuggets will play at 4 p.m. Monday,
