3 missed opportunities help UNO rally past Rush 4-3

Results

NEW ORLEANS — Karim Shokeir won the final five games Tuesday to rally for a 6-7 (4-7) 6-2, 7-5 victory against Adam Albrecht and give the University of New Orleans a 4-3 men's tennis victory against Xavier University of Louisiana at UNO.
The Gold Rush (13-6), ranked third in the NAIA, led 3-1, then dropped three consecutive 3-set matches, all of which included XU first-set victories.
Xavier won the doubles point — Karan Salwan and Kevin Chaouat beat Luis Albuquerque and Jeffrey Hsu 6-4, and Kyle Montrel and Albrecht won by the same score against Gonzalo Garcia and Nicolas Kramer — then led 2-0 when Salwan defeated Giacomo Adoncecchi 6-2, 6-0.
Thomas Setodji gave the Gold Rush a 3-1 lead and capped a 13-0 regular season in singles with a 7-5, 6-3 victory against Hsu. But Xavier was unable to get the clincher and improve its school season record with a sixth victory against an NCAA Division I opponent.
Montrel lost 2-6, 6-1, 6-3 to Garcia, then the Privateers (8-8) evened the dual when Kramer beat Tushar Mandlekar 4-6, 6-2, 6-3.
Xavier, a quarterfinalist at the NAIA National Championship each of the past four seasons, will announce soon its postseason qualifying destination.
