Dual 2
LAFAYETTE, La. — Eric Perez and Edgar Lopez broke a tie with
singles victories that enabled NCAA Division I's Louisiana-Lafayette
to escape with a 4-2 men's tennis victory against NAIA No. 3 Xavier
University of Louisiana and complete a doubleheader sweep Sunday.
The Ragin' Cajuns (15-10) won the opener 4-0. UL Lafayette is 4-0 this
season against Xavier (11-5) — the Cajuns swept another home doubleheader Jan. 18.
But Xavier nearly broke through Sunday to get its first-ever victory against
the Cajuns in seven dual matches.
After narrowly missing the doubles point, the Gold Rush tied the second dual at
 2 with singles victories by
Thomas Setodji and
Adam Albrecht. Setodji, a freshman
who is 10-0 in singles, defeated Will Huyton 6-1, 6-2 at the first court. Albrecht
won 6-4, 6-2 at No. 6 against Coleman Wahlborg.
But Perez broke the tie with a 6-4, 6-3 victory against
Tushar Mandlekar at No. 5,
and Lopez clinched with a 6-3, 6-2 victory at No. 2 against
Karan Salwan. That
ended Salwan's 10-match singles win streak.
Huyton and Arthur Libaud won the doubles point with a 7-6 (8-6) victory against
 Setodji and
Kevin Chaouat after
Manav Chakma and Salwan beat Vlad Kramarov and
Wahlborg 6-3. Still on court when the second dual ended was
Kyle Montrel, who
	 led 6-7 (3-7), 6-3, 1-0 against Libaud.
"Kyle had his guy in the third, no doubt about it," XU coach
Alan Green said. "After
they clinched (Libaud) fell to the ground and was cramping. But that's how it goes.
Much better effort in the second match. This was a lot closer than the score says."
In the first dual, Wahlborg clinched with a 6-2, 6-1 victory against Albrecht.
Xavier, 3-5 this year against NCAA DIs, will play its next dual at 1 p.m. Sunday at
XU Tennis Center against another DI, Jackson State. The XU women will play DI
Southern at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Xavier.
