NEW ORLEANS — For just the third time
in 13 seasons, a Xavier University of Louisiana women's cross country freshman has parlayed
a collegiate debut into a Gulf Coast Athletic Conference Runner of the Week award.
This time it's
Jalyn Jenkins,
who ran 5,000 meters in 21 minutes, 5.6 seconds to place 33rd out of 88 runners Saturday in the
Mississippi College Watson Invitational at Clinton, Miss.
Jenkins is from Mt. Juliet, Tenn., and
a graduate of Mt. Juliet High School. She joins
Taylor Price (2016) and Zahri Jackson (2011)
as XULA freshmen who earned GCAC weekly honors for their debut performances.
XULA will return to Clinton and Choctaw Trails Course for its next meet of the fall semester,
the GCAC Championships on Nov. 4.
